Long Thin Garden

Brief: This long thin garden near West Malling, typical of many Victorian houses, was left bare and neglected after a kitchen extension and new conservatory. The client didn't know where to start but asked for much some needed interest to be added, a cottage feel to the planting and somewhere to grow vegetables.

Solution: As the garden was so long I divided it into three areas; a patio and small lawn close to the house, a vegetable garden in the centre and a more relaxed, secondary seating area and lawn at the end of the garden close to a new shed. Brick paths help to create a cottage feel and a bespoke pergola was built to divide the garden and add height and interest. Traditional brick edged gravel paths were chosen for around the raised vegetable beds to create a smart kitchen garden.

A selection of shrubs, bulbs and typical cottage plants such as Roses, Lavander and Verbena were chosen to supply year round colour and interest.

Testimonial:

" The garden is lovely at present and we are delighted with the outcome of your design"
