Week 1: Finding your style

This week focuses on different styles of gardens, looking at their key components and how they work with the surrounding architecture and landscape. We will also look at the different hard landscaping materials available as well as the use of colour and textures in the garden. From this you will put together a mood board with ideas for your own garden.

Homework: The group will answer some questions about their own gardens from which they will start to create a design brief.  Notes will be given in class on how to measure their garden themselves, which they should do before week 2 to bring along to class with photos of their garden.

Week 2: Focus on your garden

This week focuses on the design. We will look at the current layout of your garden and discuss how and when you use the space and how it can be improved by applying bassic design principles. Individuals will work on their own design during class time with my guidance of course!

Homework: Designs can be worked on at home.
